Fortify College Athletics is led by Tony Hernandez, a seasoned professional with over 25 years of experience in every aspect of college athletics. Tony has established himself as a leader at both the conference and national levels, bringing a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table.
Most recently, Hernandez served as the Deputy Director of Athletics and Chief Operating Officer at Texas Tech University. In this role, he oversaw all administrative units and department programming, while also serving as the sport administrator for the football and men’s basketball programs.
Before his time at Texas Tech, Hernandez spent 19 years at the University of Miami (FL) in various leadership roles. He began his career in Compliance, where he rose to become President of the National Association of Athletic Compliance (NAAC). He then advanced to Senior Associate Athletics Director, Deputy Athletics Director, CFO, and COO. Tony also served as Interim Athletics Director in 2011. During his tenure at Miami, Hernandez directly oversaw multiple key areas, including Compliance, Academic Services, Sports Medicine, Marketing, Ticket Operations, Development, and several athletic programs such as Football, Men’s Basketball, Baseball, and Track and Field.
Hernandez holds both a finance degree and a law degree from the University of Miami. He is also a graduate of the Disney Institute and was recognized as one of the Top 60 Latinos in Sports in 2021. Hernandez's extensive service includes ten NCAA committees, three years as Chair of the Student-Athlete Reinstatement Committee, and numerous conference committees.
